Australian Electronics Retail Recovery is Matter of Time

0359 GMT - Macquarie analysts are sure the electronics retail market will improve, but admit that they don't know when. Demand for memory components has pushed consumer tech hardware into a period of hyperinflation over the last year, the analysts write. Three things are necessary for market fundamentals to improve: Retailers' relative positioning needs to continue normalizing; product releases, such as new console games, are important to drive consumer interest; and finally, inventory flow needs to improve. This, they warn, could be a challenge due to Australia's likely position as a lower-priority market. They continue to prefer JB Hi-Fi as a recovery play, with Wesfarmers attractive due to its defensive characteristics.
